Predetermined reality or virtual wonderland is the offer which faced me this week. I have been having fits of vertigo. Sometimes the room is a vortex – sometimes normal. I have been having tests to determine the problem. During this period I have missed a whole part of the course ending last night. Flexible distance learning – surely virtual unreal reality. Taking the other pill I could follow my normal Monday to Wednesday schedule of getting up at five and working till eight at night when I get home I might just have caught a smidgen of a tutorial. Thursday that’s conference day till 8.00 pm. Whoever arranged this schedule doesn’t know how the other half lives!
Back to Matrix though…most of us are enslaved and the only quibble is one of terminology ‘wage slave’, ‘enthusiastic employee’, ‘reliable member of the company’ etc. Even a friend of my son who is ‘of independent means’ is a slave to his investments which require his careful vigilance.
There seem to me to be several choices: to drop out; to dive in; to swim with the flow or to watch from the armchair. I choose to dive in and hence the red pill for Wonderland or a mad, mad world. My other three choices are all forms of the blue pill. It’s not just ‘The New World Order’ that becomes a prison for the mind. It was always there, hence ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’ 
and the popularity of Timothy Leary. The trip can be bad or good depending on the quality of the stuff. The Maharishi or today’s esoteric sub-cultures are a temporary panacea: stop the world for a minute I want to get off. I like the panacea and the adventure and the other choices appear to me to be death over life!
