Hi. My name is Vasilis Babouris but you can call me Bill. I started this MSc two years ago and I am taking things at a very… leisurely pace (i.e. one module per semester). I initially studied Physics but my interested quickly shifted to Translation. Ι have been working as a freelance translator since 1991 and as a translator trainer since 1993, and have attended several postgraduate-level training seminars on translation technologies and translator training at the Universities of Granada, Bosporus, Marseilles and Ghent. Finally, when time permits, I also do freelance work as a journalist, a writer, an editor and a consultant for various publishing houses.
Translation has to do with language, and language has to do with culture; in fact, one of the most interesting areas of Translatology during the past two decades has been Cultural Studies. What I’m hoping to explore during this course is the potential effect of Digital Culture on language and translation; but, perhaps more importantly, I hope to explore my own place in the domain of Digital Culture and examine how one’s life is affected as one is increasingly immersed in the world of digital technologies.
Looking forward to working with all of you,
Bill Babouris
