Kubrick chose the most isolated place to play out his fears, space. A new fim, Surrogates is a 2009 science fiction film, based on the 2005–2006 comic book series of the same name, has as it’s central theme the notion that technology will eventually isolate us from each other.

saw it – it was really bad, but interesting. I was particularly interested in the notion that humans might invest so much in preserving a physical presence ‘out there’ in the world – with all its cars and beauty parlours etc. I guess (as Hamish M said when I talked with him about it) that it depends which technology comes first – the fully immersive virtual world or the surrogate physical body. I guess the latter would be more useful for military applications, which inevitably fund and develop these new techs.
