The biggest barrier to creativity is … Angst. Angst in regards to the new, unknown, the ‘beyond the comfort zone’ feeling.
This is an experience I’ve just made as I was attempting my digital artefact.
We are surrounded and daily bombarded by reasonably high quality digital content (though not necessarily on YouTube) and you tend to wonder how technologically versed the creators are!
Although the media recording itself may now be easy given teh variety of tools now available the post-production process and integration of media sources (photos, video, audio/narration) surely must be difficult.
Having just had a go at my Digital Artefact Project on ‘The perception of Robots by Humans’  am I pleasantly surprised how easy it actually is to put something together which looks reasonably good, deploying largely free but still powerful and easy-to-use software.
I have been using MS PhotoStory 3 combined with MS MovieMaker and the two complement each other very nicely. I am particularly impressed by the variety of effects one can add to the production.
A (free) Firefox plugin to extract YouTube videos for movie integration was an extra bonus.
Although it was a bit hairy to get the final file conversion done I found myself well ahead of schedule …
With some practice who knows it may become as easy as essay writing …
