me

I am a teacher and Academic Manager for the British Council, currently living in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand.  I have been in TEFL since leaving university: two years in Singapore, a year  in The UK and the last 14 years in Thailand.

I see my interest in e-learning as a natural progression from my previous fascination with all things self-access, the internet being your own personal self-access centre piped into your home.  Like self-access the hardest part about online teaching and learning isn’t deciding which resources to make available to your learners but rather training people to use them well.  With learning in this environment the student is faced with the same issues of how to effectively navigate their environment in order to manage their learning.  With both online learning and self-access it is necessary for the facilitator to provide new students with strong pathways through the environment and the skills to reflect on and evaluate their progress.

I am currently doing a MSc in E-learning in the hope that I will be in a stronger position to realise a very simple dream.  I want to teach English online, and do it very very well.

When I am not wearing my educator hat I am married to my beloved Wolf, Dom and have two cats (Lily & Roso) and a chihuahua type creature called Spike.  My interests are travel, art, photography, helping Dom run our online community The Northlands, blogging and simply enjoying the spiritual journey of life.

Tracy – been hooting at your blog. Great stuff. I’m a recovering TEFL teacher myself.

I am happy you liked it, and even happier to see evidence of life after TEFL :D

    Hi Tracy

Thanks for your message. Glad to have you aboard too. Don’t worry about the lack of Marie action on this course … I’m sure she’ll find a way to make her presence felt!
